For the past 12 years, Rick Santorum has been an outspoken conservative voice in the U.S. Senate. Described as “more conservative than his state of Pennsylvania,” Santorum has been a champion of conservative principles and perhaps the leading spokesman in the Senate for the pro-life issue and for preserving the sanctity of marriage. While only a few politicians today dare to speak openly on the abortion issue, Santorum has not hesitated. He raises his voice for the right to life no matter what audience he is talking to. Some call that confrontational. I call it honest.

After 12 years of being the leading conservative voice in the Senate, especially on the hot-button cultural issues of the day, Santorum’s successful run in the Senate has finally come to an end. But, he went down fighting and will maintain his role as a leading advocate of conservative principles.

Last year, ISI Books published Santorum’s first book, It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good, which outlined his vision that family and community lie at the heart of conservatism. Publishing a book gave Santorum the opportunity to put his staunchly conservative ideas into print. Some of his own political pundits thought that putting such a conservative-minded book out before his election was not a wise political move for the Senator. Santorum told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “One of my fellow congressmen from Pennsylvania asked me, ‘Why are you doing this now? Why not wait until after the election?’” Santorum responded to his colleague, “Because people will read it now and they won’t read it after the election. I really do want people to read this. I believe it."

He put his book out before his election because he wanted to get his conservatives ideas out there - he wanted people to read what he thought because he believed more people would digest these foundational conservative ideas before the election rather than after. He’s a true statesman, who not only wants to represent the people of his state, but convince those that disagree with him why they should reconsider their own views. Santorum is not afraid to fight for the losing cause in order to try to sway others on the ideas he believes in. He came into the political arena in order that the principles he stands for will some day win. Unlike some Republicans, he leaves office with those principles.

Besides being known as the leading spokesman on socially conservative issues, Senator Santorum has not strayed away from the issue of the war. This summer, he gave some stirring speeches around his state of Pennsylvania, trying to rally support for what is becoming perhaps another losing issue for President Bush and the Republican Party. With the economy doing well, the Democrats have seemed to win the House and the Senate by running an anti-war campaign.
Santorum reminded his constituents and all Americans that no matter how they choose to fight (or not fight) this war, that this war cannot be avoided. “The war is at our doorsteps, and it is fueled, figuratively and literally, by Islamic fascism, nurtured and bred in Iran.”

“This is an unpopular war,” said Santorum. “I have been ridiculed by the media and my opponents for defining the enemy Islamic fascism - they say words don’t matter. But words do matter because words are what define the enemy we confront. Words are needed for Americans to comprehend what motivates the deeds that the enemy is planning, so we can effectively defeat them. And defeat them we must.”

No matter where one stands on the divisive issues of abortion, gay marriage, and the war, all can agree that Senator Santorum, unlike his Democrat opponent Bob Casey, has not stayed away from confronting these issues - issues that define the true evils of our time. He is a conviction politician at a time when the political arena is desperately in need of conviction. Despite Santorum’s loss on Election Day, he has fought to keep these ideas fresh on the minds of all voters, not just in Pennsylvania, but across America. The laws he helped fight for may be overturned, but the ideas he has nurtured among millions of Americans with his stirring speeches and published book title, will last far longer than the twelve years he lasted in the U.S. Senate.

As T.S. Eliot reminded us, "We fight for lost causes because we know that our defeat and dismay may be the preface to our successors' victory, though that victory itself will be temporary; we fight rather to keep something alive than in the expectation that it will triumph."
I thank Senator Santorum for his outspoken convictions to fight for those causes that at times haven’t seemed to be winning with voters. He can rest assured that he has inspired this young voter and millions more across America to follow his example and fight for the values we believe in, for the country we love, and to stand up against evil when no one else will.

Pro-lifers -- don't buy this crap from Bobby Casey. Supporting "family planning services" and "emergency contraception" at the federal level only means more money for Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion provider in the world.

He is not his father and never will be.

And for him to say he's been criticized by "even the Catholic Church" -- what is he thinking? Does he know where the Catholic church stands on the morning after pill, or any contraception for that matter? Its like he is "surprised" or "offended" that they would be critical of his views.

Senator Santorum continues to prove why he's one of the few true conservatives left in the Senate. Santorum's views on immigration are in line with your every day conservative -- secure the borders, no amnesty to those who break the laws. Santorum knows that if we allow any program, such as the guest-worker program, that eventually leads to amnesty, that such a program would only encourage more immigrants to enter our country -- illegally.

Sen. Santorum also recognizes that the House is not going to approve of the way the Senate bill is currenty written, mostly due to the fact that the House contains principled conservatives like Sen. Santorum who actually have spines.

This is unbelivable. The Casey campaign apparently is spying on Santorum's home in Virginia, filled with 6 kids. Unbelivable.

The Casey campaign has been making a big deal that Santorum lives in VA. Maybe that's because Santorum is a family man who wants to spend the week with his wife and 6 children. He should be commended for this, or at least be left alone because its a family issue.

Casey is an absolute thug and must be feeling the heat now as his lead continues to shrink...

FINALLY,

the Casey campaign has agreed to debate. Santorum? Ha. Casey doesn't want his poll numbers reversed this early on in the campaign.

Instead, he will be debating his Democratic primary opponents, where more pro-abort Pennsylvanias will learn about his pro-life views, and where more pro-lifers, who more then often tend to be pro-family, will learn of his pro-gay views.

WELL what do you know, Santorum gives a stance on an issue today, and Casey has no response. Because of course, it is a complicated issue, and Casey must watch countless debats before deciding on the issue, while ignoring public-opinion polls, of course.

People actually think this guy is qualified to represent PA in the Senate?

Anyway, back to the point. The issue? Immigration reform.

Sen. Santorum's stance (as provided to AP, 3/29):

Sen. Rick Santorum said Tuesday he generally opposes allowing illegal immigrants
to become U.S. citizens without them first going back to their home
country.

Without that requirement, "I don't know why anyone would bother trying to wait in line to get a green card ... You create all sorts (of), I think, very bad incentives for really controlling the ingress into this country," Santorum said in an interview shortly after addressing Pennsylvania farmers at a forum. ...

Santorum said he has heard from some in the construction industry and some farmers -- particularly fruit and mushroom growers -- concerned that tightening border security could make it more difficult for them to find workers.

He said he supports studying ways to increase the number of legal immigrants in the country.

Santorum told the farmers that, as the son of an immigrant, he is mindful of immigrants' contributions and the need to be compassionate. But, he said, "the bottom line is that we have to treat people who came to this country illegally differently than those who came legally, and if we don't, then we will never control our borders, period."

Bob Casey's "Stance" (as reported by the AP, 3/29):

When asked Tuesday whether Casey supported the bill, campaign spokesman Larry
Smar said, "I think it's still pretty early in the process and we're watching the Senate debate. It seems like there isn't that much consensus in Washington, or in the Senate for that matter, on how to proceed, so we'll watch the debates and see how it progresses."

WOW. I'm speechless. Now I feel how Casey does. All the time.

Current Rasmussen poll puts Casey under 50%... a 4 point drop since February.

Santorum: 38%
Casey: 48%

This drop is significant since there was virtually no drop in Casey's poll numbers for 3 consecutive months. So what drove his poll numbers down? Abortion. Which is what will continue to pull Casey down.uy

Let's face it.. Liberal democrats believe in an abortion-on-demand, responsibility-free society. They believe in a Culture of Death. The more they realize Casey doesn't share their "values," they are less likely to support him. While they will probably never join the Santorum camp, one has to believe they won't bother going to the polls in November.

Memo to Casey: despite rhetoric, the Democratic party will always hold dear their "value" of abortion-on-demand.

As today's Washington Times article named "Santorum's Challenge" points out, the support and poll numbers for Bob Casey should fall as soon as the electorate knows about Casey's pro-life and pro-gun support.

The word is getting around pro-abortion circles...

The most recent grass-roots manifestation of this came late last
month at the Lancaster County Democratic Convention, which did not endorse any
candidate to oppose Mr. Santorum.

When a Democratic committee member expressed reservations about Bob Casey's
socially conservative positions, county party chairman Bruce Beardsley urged
party members to look beyond Mr. Casey's pro-life stance.
"Would you rather have someone who you disagree with
about two things [abortion and gun control] but agree with about everything
else, or one whom you disagree with on everything?" Mr. Beardsley said.

Pro-choice activist Kate Michelman won't be an independent candidate in Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race.
Despite pressure from abortion-rights supporters, the former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America said she would not run in the November election, which likely will feature two candidates who oppose abortion: Democrat Bob Casey Jr. and incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Santorum.
Ms. Michelman, 63, considered entering the race after Mr. Casey said he would have voted to confirm Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. for the U.S. Supreme Court. There was fear among many Democrats that Ms. Michelman's entrance into the race would split the vote in November in Mr. Santorum's favor, the Associated Press reports.
"Despite profound and fundamental differences, I have decided that Pennsylvania will be better served by electing Bob Casey to the U.S. Senate than giving his opponent another term," Ms. Michelman wrote in an op-ed piece published in Sunday's edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I do this knowing that I may forever regret not responding one more time to the clarion call of principle."

According to the Washington Times, the former president of NARAL is considering challenging Casey in his bid to unseat Santorum. This could get interesting, as Casey's pro-life views consider to anger PA liberals, who would most likely back Michelman and would divide not only PA Dems, but national ones too, especially the staunch pro-aborts...

Mr. Casey's pro-life position has angered pro-choice Democratic activists
and could bring into the race Kate Michelman, former president of NARAL
Pro-Choice America. Should that happen, it would split the Democrats and turn
the November election into a competitive contest, independent polls indicate.
"If there were a third-party candidate on the ballot who
is pro-choice, that candidate could draw heavily from Casey backers among
liberal Democrats, enough to make it a close race," said Clay F. Richards,
assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, whose surveys
show that Mr. Casey is vulnerable on the abortion issue with pro-choice
Democrats. "If Michelman gets in, I think you would see

Noah Finley of Geneva College Joins Pittsburgh Students for Santorum Team!

Noah Finley, a sophomore at Geneva College, has joined the Pittsburgh Students for Santorum campaign, and will help with Santorum outreach at Geneva.

Finley has done it all in campaigns: forming databases, phone banking, canvassing, walking in parades, campaign organizing.. You name it he's done it.

Finley has also served as Vice-Chairman of Randolph County Young Republicans, and Vice President of Geneva College Republicans. Finley will also serve as an intern in Melissa Hart's office this semester. Finally, Finley has experience in marketing and fundraising.

We welcome Finley's experience and look forward to working with Geneva college republicans to help re-elect Sen. Santorum!

Bob Casey on Alito... Still Waiting... And Waiting...

Short Summary of Bob Casey's apperance on the Michael Smerconish talk show this morning...

When asked if he would confirm Alito, Casey responded "I don't know."
When asked if Bush lied to America about Iraq, Casey responded "Well, I can't prove it, but it's hard to prove a lie, but I understand why people would feel that way."
When asked if the war was going poorly, he responded: "I think so."
And Casey's solution to our Social Security crisis? "We need to work on a bipartisan basis on this issue and grow the economy." No.. really.. you think?

This guy is just dumb. He's purely running off of his dad's name and has absolutely no political insight of his own. He either goes by what Santorum says or what the dems way the heck out in left field tell him to say.

More on Alito.. This is a great letter released today by Santorum's campaign manager.:

"The Santorum situation is it’s got some people concerned. His opponent, Casey, has got a very recognizable name. And is being passed off as a kind of moderate democrat. The problem that Santorum has in his race is that its PA. You know you’ve got Pittsburgh and Philadelphia the two biggest cities, big democrat cities. Even in the suburbs of Philadelphia where you have sort of republicans they are not republicans on social matters. They’re like Arlen Specter. They’ll be ok on foreign policy and economics and so forth but when it comes to social [issues] and by that I mean abortion these people are moderate as he can be.

I’ve run into these people, they come up to me frequently and say,
"You’ve got to get the Christian right out of the party. We’re never going to
get anywhere unless you get the Christian right out of the party." And what they mean is ‘you’ve got to drop this abortion business’ and what they mean by that is ‘my wife is nagging me I can’t stay a republican because my wife…" Philadelphia, suburban Philadelphia, where the republicans live becoming more and more like suburban New York City. And so those are the two big population centers and that’s one of Santorum’s problems.

What these non-social issue Republicans are in denial about is it's the socially conservative Christian part of the party that is the reason Republicans are in power. Don't give me any of that "we're never going to get anywhere until we get the Christian right out of the party" crap. The only reason our party has gone anywhere is because of the religious right -- why are the Democrats softening their position on abortion, not strengthening it? Because they know that supporting abortion on demand is a losing position. Finally, pro-lifers are the ones having children, who will be future Republicans, while the pro-aborts are aborting their children or not having any at all. The future of the Republican Party is literally in the pro-life movement. Go to the March for Life vs. any pro-abortion march. Notice the age difference -- Sen. Santorum does, and I'm sure going home to his 6 children reinforces his belief every day.

Where does Democrat Bob Casey stand on Alito? Good question, a question I cannot answer because Casey remains silent on Alito even while the United States Senate, the job he is running for, has opened up Alito hearings and the vast majority of Senators have already commented on Alito.

Senator Rick Santorum, on the other hand, is in the mainstream of Pennsylvanians as he supports Judge Alito becoming our next justice on the Supreme Court.

Santorum's campaign manager puts it well when he says

“If he refuses to let Pennsylvanians know his position on Judge Alito's nomination now, how can anyone have confidence that he'll fight for them on the Senate floor for the next 6 years?” – Vince Galko

Why this unnecessary silence on Alito?

Because Bob Casey is simply playing a tricky game of poltics with Pennsylvanians. He knows that if he supports Judge Alito, the $150,000 contributions from leftist fringe group MoveOn.org will stop coming in. He knows that if he opposes Alito, he will be out of the mainstream with Pennslyvanians and will hurt any chance of winning the votes of pro-life Democrats and moderate Republicans.

Don't be fooled by Casey's games. From what it appears, Casey is following the almighty liberal fringe group dollar and is running away from principle. Let's fight to keep Rick Santorum in the United States Senate and not let this spineless, unprincipled politican replace him!

Jason Buck Joins Pittsburgh Students for Santorum Team!

Jason Buck, a junor at Franciscan University, has joined the Pittsburgh Students for Santorum Team as a Director of Students for Santorum at Franciscan.

Buck, a junior and Computer Information Sciences major, is a Pennsylvania native and has extensive experience in the world of politics, namely in the pro-life movement. Buck is the founder and president of Culture of Life, Inc., a non-profit educational orgnization that just received its 501-C3 tax deductible status. Buck's organization offers resources to help students start and maintain successful pro-life clubs, and plans on producing and airing pro-life commercials.

Buck was also a key member during Bush's re-election effors in Pennsylvania and Ohio as a member of Franciscan Univeristy College Republicans.

Jason also plays in his band, the Jason Buck Band, a popular Franciscan band.

Pittsburgh Students for Santorum is happy to announce a new addition to its team, Benjamin Hackett.

Hackett, a junior, currently serves as President of Carnegie Mellon College Republicans, and adds crucial campaign experience to the team. Hackett has worked on the campaings of Bret Schundler, Arlen Specter, and various other local campaigns.

Hackett also has a very well designed blog that provides interesting insight on current political issues. He also contributes to Watchblog, Redstate, Commonconservative, Thetartan, Newvoices, and Web Wire.

We are happy to have Hackett on board and look forward to bringing in a strong vote for Santorum from Carnegie Mellon College Republicans.

Pittsburgh Students for Santorum (PSFS) is an official organization that networks Pittsburgh area college students together to work for the re-election campaign of Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa).

Students that join the organization will team together to strategically campaign for Santorum within and around their universities through proven grassroots techniques.

The coalition currently consists of students and is seeking students from Franciscan University of Steubenville, University of Pittsburgh, Duquense University, Grove City and Carnegie Mellon University.
